Westford-Acton-Boxborough: Knights

Come join our Knights Cheer family! Our program teaches and reinforces both sideline and competitive cheerleading skills, with a focus on motions, jumps, stunting, sideline cheers/chants, dance, and tumbling, all culminating in a 2:30 competitive and/or showcased routine.
It is our goal to make our practices, games, and competitions fun, rewarding, and productive, while pushing the athletes to be the best they can be and fostering a love for the sport of cheerleading.

Since it began two years ago, the Knights Cheer program has assisted in the development of over 60 cheerleaders, has seen over a dozen cheerleaders make the choice to continue cheer at all-star cheer gyms in the off seasons, won three 1st place titles, two grand championship titles, and has qualified for the New England Regional Championship two years in a row.

Our volunteer coaching staff consists of many parents who were former cheerleaders, several at the collegiate level, and high school aged student demonstrators who have a vast amount of cheer experience.  Additionally, our volunteer program director coaches one of the Knights teams and is a staff member at an all star gym where she coaches competitive teams ranging from levels 1-3.

We thank you for your interest in our program and can't wait to see what the upcoming season holds!

Here are some FAQs you may be curious about:

Per National Pop Warner rules, Pop Warner Spirit Teams are created based upon the child’s age as of 7/31. Knights Pop Warner cheer teams are open to boys and girls ages from 5-15! Athletes under the age of 8 will participate in our "Intro to Cheer" program- a program designed to introduce the sport of cheer to our youngest athletes!

Knights Cheer offers fundamental and competition cheerleading for all levels and ages. No experience required and there are NO TRYOUTS. ALL DIVISIONS will get a chance to showcase their talents at the Eastern MA Pop Warner Cheer and Dance Competition. All Participants will learn: motions. jumps, stunting techniques, sideline cheers & chants, cheer & dance routines.

Practice schedules will be set by the cheer director and head coaches and will start mid-August. Pop Warner National mandates 20 practice hours for conditioning before athletes can stunt. National Pop Warner rules require: 10 hours of conditioning (No stunts or tumbling for cheer) followed by 10 hours of athlete readiness (Stunt and Tumbling progressions only for cheer).

Prior to Labor Day, practices will be held 3 times per week (for ages 8+) for 2.5 hours each day, beginning on August 11, 2020. Those in our Intro to Cheer program will practice 2x per week for 1 hour each day.

We ask that every athlete make the effort to attend every practice in August, however we know that there may be circumstances in which this is not possible. Please understand that while accommodations can be made, the athlete will have to complete missed conditioning hours before being allowed to participate in the rest of the team activities. If possible please plan your August travel plans accordingly! Practice time and locations will vary depending on team assignments and field/space availability.

Our youngest age group participates in the Non-Competition Division, showcasing a performance routine at either the Eastern MA or New England Regional Pop Warner Competition and Showcases held in October or November, respectively.  All other teams participate in the Competition Division.

Intro to Cheer: Attend and perform at HOME tackle football games (3-4 per season), usually held on Sundays during the season. Must commit to practicing 1 day per week during the school year and a performance at the Eastern MA Pop Warner Showcase and Competition.

Ages 8+: Attend and perform at ALL tackle football games (1 per week, usually held on Sundays during the season). Must commit to practicing 2 days per week during the school year (3 days/ week two weeks leading up to competition). The latter part of the season will contain additional focus on preparing the team to compete at the Regional and National Pop Warner Cheer and Dance Competitions, should they qualify. Must commit to compete at all 3 levels of competition: Eastern MA (early to mid- October), New England Regionals (early November) and National Championships (early December) if the team qualifies for advancement.

Like all sports, cheerleading does come with risks, however, we have a heavy focus on safety. As a Pop Warner requirement, each year ALL coaches are required to attend a "hands-on" clinic in which they learn safety techniques, as well as complete an online course on safety and general regulations.

When stunting, our athletes practice on cheer mats, are taught grips and proper technique prior to putting up a flyer, and only practice and perform level/age appropriate stunts.

Athletes who tumble are asked to only do the skills they are able to do without a spot.

The cost is $255 per cheerleader if registration and payment are completed prior to June 13, 2020. After June 13th, the registration fee increases to $275.  Your registration fee includes uniform rental, competition fees, poms, practice facility fees, shoes, and 3 bows.
